Wow, this is really something else. I like how 'sketchy' this looks despite being so detailed and defined. Black and white's my favorite, man. I love the symmetry of the two-headed eagle. Keep doing whatever you're doing.

This is really beautiful. I'm not sure how this would make sense in minecraft- considering everything is composed of squares- but your use of artistic license makes this piece come alive; I don't think of it so much in regards to minecraft as much I do to a hole bore by some strange and enormous mole-like creature. Regardless, the light shining through the top is particularly beautiful and I like how the scene trails off into the distance.

xcrosspictures responds:

Supposed to be inside a root so it's not made by a mole creature. Yet thanks for the feedback :D

Wonderfully abstract... It reminds me of some of Stanley Downwood's art (which is very much a compliment). I really like the way you make the turquoise and black bands weave in and out of the piece.

JessePants responds:

Yeah that is one hell of a compliment, thanks a lot.

Apparently, I'm only allowed to write reviews on this particular piece; however, the runner's anatomy was taken from a video of a race (the anatomy of the reference in question appeared strange as well). I can understand what you mean by "popped out of his body", but I was honestly just referencing someone who looked as if that was happening to them (perhaps it was my mistake in referencing runners with bad form).

I want to do a background to this, but I'm afraid it would be too tedious.

I like how simplistic this is... (must have been fun to draw). The sword seems very well done - especially the lighting on the blade - and I like how the ribbon flows with the wind. The leaves were also a nice touch. The linear quality of the rocks is also sort of interesting (reminds me of some sort of ruins). The color of the piece is also very warm (despite being predominantly blue) and flows very nicely.

akoRn responds:

thank you so much. i am beginning trying to understand the deeper usage of color and how to apply that to my works. its a very complex process for me, gettin the hang of it after 8 weeks been critized and advised by my boss (im on internship right now).

hope to improve more soon.. thank you for the kind words. :)

I really, really love all the detail in this... I'm such a fan of pen and ink, and this is a perfect example of proficient ink art. I really like the patterns and spiritual connotation as well. You've got a great style and I'm glad you had the tenacity to finish the entire piece (I'm still working on a really detailed piece myself).

ShizzleCreature responds:

thanks!
its actually just ink ,but glad you liked it, and good luck with your piece, link me when its done!

The realism in this is impeccable... I've neither attempted nor fathomed such a vivid piece depicting something underwater - a person, no less. Even though this was taken from a photo, it seems as if you have a solid understanding of lighting and depth.

I took a look at the website, and those are some beautiful art references; it's no wonder your piece came out so well. Having looked at the photo from which you derived this piece, however, I have a few criticisms:

Altogether, this seems very, very accurate, so it wasn't until I looked at your reference that I spotted almost any difference. The front of the neck and eyes of the figure where what appeared patently different upon comparison (namely that they appear to jut forward a bit in comparison to the stock photo); also, the mouth is a bit larger than that in the photo - something I noticed almost immediately; additionally, the hair is a lot darker than that of the photo - not to mention less voluminous - which makes quite a difference. In general, the piece has much more contrast in comparison to your piece. And, although I really don't want to try and criticize this (because it's obscenely beautiful), the water droplets at the top are a tad large in comparison (again, it's still obscenely beautiful); I also understand that making them that small would prove difficult in terms of adding detail to them. In brief - and I'm not to sound disparaging in any way: lighten it up, add contrast, and pay a little more attention to the stock photo.

Again, just to clarify, I think that this piece is amazing. Also, my criticisms were in no way a form of derision or contempt, but a form of constructive feedback; I hope you benefit from them in some way.

I assume you did this in some sort of computer program, as the lines on the replicated surfaces seem practically identical; nevertheless, that doesn't take anything away from this piece. If anything, I would call this piece a lovechild between the art of Dali and Picasso - in a very positive way, mind you. I love the colors on this: blue, composing the face (which is still red enough to relay the blood coursing through his veins); yellow, which displays a subtle melancholy, and brown, which melds the hair with the rocks and makes the piece seem somewhat droll - in an aesthetic way. I do love how distorted and inhuman the face looks in the mirror, too. This is a beautiful piece (despite the little "FRIDAY FLOOD" banner, which sort of seems to be mucking up how freaking awesome this is).

I have little idea as to what the "FRIDAY FLOOD" is, yet I'm certainly impressed that it's encompassed the work of such a brilliant artist (I saw some of your work in the art forums as well).

Very interesting character concept. I really like the radiant effects that you incorporated into your piece. The strange, demonic air (created with the fangs and the uneven redness of the background) is also very aesthetic. I like its long fingers and crossed legs as well. The saliva is also beautifully done. I should think this would be a rather strange sight to see in a swamp - however bio-diverse - and yet your back-story was very convincing (not to mention very well done). If anything, I would include some scientific terms to make your story all the more engaging (e.g. siliceous ooze, bioluminescence, heterotrophic, hominid, bipedal, etc.); you could also make up some words, like 'illumnivore' (i.e. 'light eater'). Perhaps the creature feeds on a specific plant which is bioluminescent. In any regard, this is a very interesting character background, and I would consider expanding it.

And as for the resemblance to the icon of Deadmau5, I'm going to guess that this was either coincidence or that you were subconsciously influenced by them... While it's possible you decided consciously to make a series of characters based off of that logo, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt.

The only thing I think is lacking in this is detail. While the lighting effects and light gradients certainly give this piece character, I think it's lacking in coherence to the background story you described; I'd much prefer to see this thing in your aforementioned swamp - doing whatever the hell it does - or in a spherical, transparent container of some sort.

The monotone of radiant and bleached oranges really creates an unsettling emotional connotation to this piece; moreover, the jagged edges and exaggerated proportions make the piece all the more unsettling - again, in terms of emotional infectiousness. The slight redness around the neck seems to imply a sort of strange stately connotation; it's as if the figure was dressed up for some special occasion, or to impress someone. And I absolutely love the distraught facial expression with clenched teeth. The darkness of the hair and clothes, and the radiance of the exposed skin seem to portray that the figure is somehow hiding his true feelings - or failing thereto - within the confines of his expression and the darkness that surrounds him. I love the fragility of the rose as well, and how it is the same color as his skin - creating the illusion that he is somehow attached to the rose.

Your style is remarkable in its artistic infectiousness is personally just freaking epic.

FallenBane responds:

Ah, I love how much you got out of this drawing - it makes me happy that my work can send out that sort of tone. Thank you!

Old NG rat. Much love.
